New Orleans is waiting for you

We’re back from New Orleans and I must say the City is on the rebound but nowhere near pre-Katrina levels which right now is still a good thing for visitor’s wanting great experiences, options and value.

Our fun group found it so easy to get around the City for sighseeing, checking out Congo Square, especially for the amateur photographer in the group; shop downtown and at Shops at Canal Place on Canal Street, and just stop along Royal Street and so many other streets to enjoy the street performers, musicians, artists and spontaneous spoken word events.

We didn’t have a bad meal anywhere, even at the “decide on the spot” options in response to someone saying ‘let’s find someplace to eat – my stomach is growling”.  Delicious meals were enjoyed and lingered over at Emeril’s on Tchoupitoulas St., Muriel’s Jackson Square, Mother’s breakfast place, Red Fish Grill on Bourbon Street,  Cafe Adelaide in the Loew’s Hotel, Court of Two Sister’s downtown and lots of other wonderful places.

As visitors were criss crossing the city for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival events, the atmosphere was just as lively and energized as when I’ve visited other times throughout the year. Don’t forget to stop into hear some of the best music anywhere, at Preservation Hall, Tipitina’s, Snug Harbor and Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse. (Even heard great music in a  New Orleans record store!) If you haven’t visited the Garden District lately you really enjoy the quaintness and restoration work completed in this beautiful walking neighborhood.  And if you’ve never visited the devastated sections of the 9th Ward, slow progress is happening here too, but there’s still much to be done and New Orleans is waiting for all of us to come and continue to help revitalize a great American city I can’t wait to visit again.

Since this trip in now a ‘favorite’ among our fun group we’ll be adding it to great places to visit and hear jazz for next year.  I’ll add a few photos we took.

peace in jazz,

E
